Gold Rush
Date: April 14, 2007 Event Info... Hide Event InfoThe 2007 Gold Rush event, held on a beautiful Spring day at Camp Tadma in Bozrah CT, featured a "Lost in Space" theme this year. Many Dens and Packs constructed space-themed vehicles and even dressed up in some pretty creative space or alien costumes. Our own Pack 72 constructed a very convincing version of the Apollo service module! The day's activities included: The Mind Meld where Scouts were given 30 seconds to memorize 20 items on a table and then name them; the Gemini Docking Challenge which required teamwork to maneuver model space vehicles on a steel cable and dock them; Mission Mars which required Scouts to work together to put up and take down a tent as quickly as possible; Robot Walkers where Scouts "walked" R2D2-shaped cutouts along a course using strings; The Mighty Saturn where Scouts worked together to assemble a cardboard "rocket" and move it to its launch location; Mercury Splashdown which required patience and skill to pluck model space capsules from the water using fishing pole apparatus; Astronaut Scout Knowledge which tested the Scouts' ability to answer questions as a team; and of course the Space Race in which pulled and pushed their wheeled space vehicles around a course in a race against the clock. After all the activities, we ate lunch outside and then moved inside the main hall for Mad Science demonstrations and an awards ceremony. It was a fun-filled day for all, and will be remembered for a long time to come.
